E Jean Carroll, a former Elle columnist, recently won a defamation trial against former President Donald Trump, resulting in a significant monetary award. Carroll’s legal battle against Trump centered on statements he made against her in 2019, and the jury awarded her $18.3 million in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive retribution.

E Jean Carroll’s Intentions

In an interview with Good Morning America, Carroll, accompanied by her lawyer Roberta Kaplan, shared her intentions for the awarded $83 million. Carroll expressed her desire to spend the money on something that Donald Trump “hates.” She emphasized that causing him pain through her choice of donations was her intent. Carroll also mentioned the possibility of contributing to a fund for women who have been sexually assaulted by Trump.

Response to Trump’s Reaction

After Trump denounced the decision on his Truth Social platform, calling it “absolutely ridiculous” and announcing plans to appeal, Carroll and Kaplan addressed the combative response. Kaplan expressed confidence in eventually collecting the awarded money, stating that while it might not happen immediately, Trump’s substantial real estate holdings could be sold to satisfy the judgment.

Carroll’s Trial Experience

Carroll, who accused Trump of sexually abusing her in the mid-1990s, described her emotional experience during the trial. She mentioned feeling “elation” after the win and expressed happiness about the outcome. Carroll also shared her perspective on seeing Trump during the trial, likening it to seeing “an emperor without clothes.” The trial, separate from a previous one where Carroll won $5 million for sexual abuse and defamation, was notable for Trump’s dramatic exit during Kaplan’s closing statement.

Future Legal Actions

Kaplan hinted at the possibility of bringing another case if Trump were to defame Carroll again, stating that it would result in additional financial consequences for him. The interview shed light on Carroll’s determination to hold Trump accountable through legal means and her commitment to supporting causes that challenge his views.
